WOODSTOCK – From the sky, it looks like a cornucopia etched in a cornfield.

It's the fourth time Julie and Don Budd have created a corn maze at Leaping Deere Legends, their family farm turned agricultural attraction between Woodstock and Ingersoll.

"Buy local is the theme this year," Julie Budd said. "The maze covers about 12 acres."

The corn maze will open next Wednesday, In addition to the maze, Leaping Deere Legends also has a museum-styled 1040s John Deere dealership. There are also plenty of other activities, including the Leaping Deere trail, a country store with farm-fresh meats, local farm products, gifts and collectibles. Shama the Llama and Carmella are the two newest additions to the animal shed.

About 5,400 visitors made their way through the corn maze last year.

"It's very affordable family fun," Budd said. "The biggest thing we do with the maze is education. We've added to the learning centre – it's loads of fun and very interesting."

Leaping Deere Legends has developed a school program for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students. The Budds will also host an event for 4H members on August 29, with a ride the "Farmers Feed Cities" hot air balloon up for grabs. On Thanksgiving, Leaping Deere Legends will have a food drive. People who bring food items will be entered in a draw for prizes. The maze will also be open for spook nights leading up to Halloween.

"The corn maze will be done just by flash light," said Budd. "There's also the spooky trail if you dare."
